Responsibilities
- Build and operate backend systems for real-time risk, fraud prevention, and transaction monitoring.
- Design high-throughput, low-latency distributed systems that maintain p99 end-to-end latency below one second.
- Develop real-time event-processing solutions using Kafka, Kafka Streams, or Apache Flink.
- Optimize JDBC access, database internals, queries, and overall system performance.
- Deploy machine-learning models and refine risk rules in collaboration with Data Scientists and Data Analysts.
- Support Instant ACH, chargeback and fraud investigations, and expansion into sanctions screening and AML controls.
- Own projects end to end from initial concept through production monitoring.
- Contribute to operational excellence through a you-build-it-you-run-it approach and reliable monitoring systems.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of experience with Java, Kotlin, or other JVM-based languages and deep knowledge of the Spring framework.
- Strong understanding of JDBC, database internals, query optimization, and distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka, Kafka Streams, or Apache Flink for real-time event processing.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and scalable, resilient system design.
- Ability to optimize systems for throughput and speed at billions of transaction volumes.
- Customer-focused approach to improving risk-check experiences and reducing false positives.
- Experience working cross-functionally with Data Scientists and Data Analysts.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Preferred: familiarity with machine-learning basics, data pipelines, feature engineering, and precision/recall.
- Preferred: experience with OLAP databases or data lakes such as Apache Iceberg with Kafka ingestion.
