Responsibilities
- Establish a structured, proactive approach to managing the Azure and AWS cloud estate.
- Improve maintenance, patching, upgrades, and lifecycle-management routines.
- Ensure cloud and platform changes are appropriately planned and tested.
- Prioritise platform work based on technical risk, lifecycle, and operational need.
- Establish and promote pragmatic cloud engineering standards and best practices.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, standardise, and automate cloud management.
- Identify technical risks and improvement opportunities proactively.
- Support improvements across cloud security, reliability, resilience, and observability.
- Provide technical guidance and support to the Platform Engineering team.
- Remain hands-on with engineering, remediation, automation, and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on cloud or platform engineering experience.
- Demonstrable experience improving management of an existing cloud estate and moving teams from reactive to proactive cloud management.
- Experience establishing or improving maintenance, patching, upgrade, and lifecycle-management practices.
- Experience establishing engineering standards and technical priorities.
- Strong experience and working knowledge of both Azure and AWS.
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform.
- Experience with Kubernetes or container platforms and CI/CD.
- Good understanding of cloud security, reliability, resilience, and observability.
- Ability to proactively identify improvement opportunities and collaborate with others to implement them.
- Comfort working across both cloud environments and prioritising, simplifying, and standardising operational improvements.
