Responsibilities
- Design, write, review, test, and ship software that improves service availability, scalability, latency, and efficiency.
- Automate recurring operational tasks, checklists, and validations to eliminate manual work.
- Define SLOs with stakeholders and build monitoring and alerting that enforces them.
- Debug production issues across application code, Linux, and networking layers.
- Lead blameless postmortems and root cause analyses, then implement fixes that prevent recurring problem classes.
- Plan infrastructure capacity and cost using data and document systems for other operators.
- Participate in the critical incident response team through an established on-call rotation.
- Learn and operate shared infrastructure involving global-scale DNS, anycast networks, and VPN protocols.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a similar field.
- At least 5 years of professional software development experience in one or more general-purpose languages.
- Hands-on experience building automation such as tools, services, operators, distributed systems, or auto-remediation systems that eliminated operational work.
- Experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems in production.
- Working knowledge of Git, testing, code review, and CI within large codebases.
- Solid Linux fundamentals, containers, and infrastructure as code using Terraform, Ansible, or equivalent tools.
- Experience instrumenting software and building observability with Prometheus, Grafana, or equivalent tools.
- Go is preferred; Python, Rust, and C/C++ are also accepted general-purpose languages.
- Bonus experience includes DNS technologies, routing and BGP, Linux networking, VPN protocols, bare-metal fleets, hypervisors, networking hardware, high-availability databases, and load balancers.
