Base Salary

$208k - $263k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own the architecture and design of the production simulation platform, including simulation control, determinism, reproducibility, batch execution, and traceable result storage.
  • Build and maintain log-replay pipelines, including open-loop scoring against ground truth and closed-loop replay.
  • Own scenario schemas, scenario libraries, coverage definitions, and commit, nightly, regression, and release-validation suites.
  • Define release pass criteria, reporting, and resolution workflows for failing scenarios before deployment to benches, proving grounds, or sites.
  • Evaluate commercial simulation platforms versus in-house development and own resulting vendor relationships and service levels.
  • Measure and report simulation fidelity against vehicle behavior.
  • Set engineering practices for testing, review, documentation, and simulation-result reporting.
  • Mentor engineers, participate in hiring, and represent simulation requirements and constraints to autonomy, robotics, safety, and testing teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • 2+ years as a technical lead or engineering manager setting technical direction and driving consensus.
  • Experience owning a production continuous-integration simulation platform with determinism, reproducibility, and execution-at-scale accountability.
  • Hands-on experience building large-scale log replay, scenario-based system testing, and test-suite architecture.
  • Proficiency in C++ and Python, including debugging and navigating large existing codebases.
  • Demonstrated build-versus-buy judgment for simulation or test infrastructure and understanding of resulting maintenance costs.
  • Experience with an autonomous vehicle or robotics platform and end-to-end understanding of sensing, perception, localization, planning, and controls.
  • Working experience with robotics middleware and its logging and replay tooling.
  • Experience handling camera, LiDAR, and radar data across multiple modalities and timestamps.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and raising a team's technical standard.
  • Working fluency with modern AI coding and agentic development tools.
  • Ability to work onsite five days per week in San Francisco.
