Base Salary
$168k - $227k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction across workflows and components, including service boundaries, data contracts, observability, operator-facing behavior, and trade-off visibility.
- Lead multi-engineer projects from problem framing through design, delivery, rollout, and post-launch follow-through.
- Determine when rules, AI-assisted analysis, statistical methods, or human review are appropriate, while keeping solutions explainable and proportionate.
- Shape automation boundaries and define where systems should remain flexible versus where specialization is justified by measurable value.
- Influence related teams and dependent systems to improve product correctness, speed, and trustworthiness, and simplify system design and team operations.
- Conduct design and code reviews, contribute to hiring and mentoring, and strengthen engineering practices and decision-making.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
- At least 5 years of leading the design or architecture of new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
- At least 5 years of non-internship professional software development experience.
- At least 5 years of programming experience with at least one software programming language.
- Knowledge of professional software engineering practices across the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architecture, code reviews, source control, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence.
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or engineering team leader.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to influence technical decisions across teams.
- Experience balancing short-term delivery needs with long-term system quality.
- Preferred experience with AWS-hosted service architectures, production operational excellence, analytics or decision-support products, workflow or operational tooling, production AI capabilities, mentoring engineers across levels, simplifying inherited systems, and reducing coordination overhead across team boundaries.
