Responsibilities
- Execute cloud-native development, digital architecture, systems integration, automation, cloud data platform, artificial intelligence, and machine learning initiatives.
- Design, develop, deploy, and support applications across the software development lifecycle, including cloud deployments and backend integrations.
- Lead analysis and design for current and future business solutions across multiple technology domains.
- Design and implement data storage, event-driven applications, application integrations, security and authentication, disaster recovery, system configurations, and reporting capabilities.
- Measure data quality and user journeys using front-end instrumentation, AWS Logs, and analytical data.
- Set architectural and technical standards, make technical currency decisions, mitigate technology risks, and develop architectural and program documentation.
- Lead proof-of-concept development, continuous improvement efforts, system upgrades, and technical implementations.
- Provide technical thought leadership, serve as a subject matter expert, and mentor and train less experienced team members.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Information Technology, or a closely related field.
- At least 7 years of progressively responsible post-baccalaureate experience as a technical lead or specialist in digital engineering associated with wealth management, annuities, and insurance products and services within or for the financial services sector.
- At least 7 years of experience building modern web applications and at least 4 years in a lead role.
- At least 2 years designing and implementing data storage using a NoSQL database such as DynamoDB.
- At least 1 year creating event-driven applications using a framework such as Kafka.
- Documented experience with React, TypeScript, React Hooks, component-driven architecture, Next.js SSR/SSG and SEO-oriented rendering, AWS workloads, Node.js, GraphQL, Vite/Webpack, Storybook, Lighthouse, Web Vitals, DataDog, ELK, and CloudWatch.
- Experience with trunk-based development, CI/CD, automation, observability, incident-aware engineering, Java services, the Spring ecosystem, Hibernate ORM, and REST and SOAP services.
- AWS certification such as Solutions Architect – Associate, Solutions Architect – Professional, or DevOps Engineer, or certification from another major cloud provider such as Azure or GCP.
- Ability to travel to Thrivent’s Minneapolis headquarters at least 10% of the time.
