Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, configure, operate, and sustain AWS-based platform services for mission-critical Department of Defense applications.
- Administer Kubernetes clusters, including networking, storage, secrets, access control, autoscaling, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance.
- Build repeatable infrastructure and platform configurations using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, or equivalent tools.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, container registries, artifact repositories, automated testing, and deployment controls.
- Deploy and sustain containerized applications across development, test, staging, and production environments.
- Integrate platform services with DODIN networking, identity, PKI, logging, monitoring, vulnerability management, and enterprise security services.
- Maintain secure configurations aligned with DoD security baselines, DISA STIGs, RMF requirements, and ATO conditions.
- Monitor platform availability, performance, capacity, security posture, and application health.
- Troubleshoot Linux, containers, Kubernetes, AWS, networking, certificates, encryption, load balancing, storage, compute, identity, and application dependencies.
- Perform patching, vulnerability remediation, configuration management, backup, recovery, and controlled upgrades.
- Collaborate with cybersecurity, network, software, data, systems engineering, and mission teams.
- Produce architecture documentation, configuration standards, operating procedures, runbooks, troubleshooting guides, and knowledge articles.
- Support architecture reviews, release planning, change control, incident response, root-cause analysis, and after-action reviews.
- Provide platform health, risk, security, maintenance, dependency, and recommendation status reporting.
Requirements
- Active Secret security clearance or eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance; only U.S. citizens are eligible for the clearance.
- At least five years of directly relevant professional experience in platform engineering, cloud engineering, DevSecOps, systems engineering, Linux administration, or a related technical field.
- Hands-on experience operating systems connected to the DODIN and familiarity with Department of Defense network, security, configuration, and operational requirements.
- Current DoD 8570-compliant certification appropriate to the assigned information assurance or cybersecurity workforce functions.
- Hands-on experience deploying, administering, troubleshooting, and upgrading Kubernetes environments.
- Hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure and services covering compute, networking, storage, identity, security, monitoring, and automation.
- Experience administering Linux-based systems and troubleshooting operating system, process, package, filesystem, permissions, networking, and performance issues.
- Experience building, securing, deploying, and operating containers using Docker, OCI-compatible technologies, or equivalent tooling.
- Experience with infrastructure as code, configuration automation, source control, CI/CD pipelines, and repeatable deployment practices.
- Working knowledge of TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, DNS, load balancing, VPNs, TLS, certificates, and network segmentation.
- Working knowledge of DoD cybersecurity and authorization practices, including RMF, STIGs, vulnerability management, continuous monitoring, and ATO requirements.
- Ability to diagnose complex technical problems independently, coordinate across teams, document findings, and drive issues to resolution.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for explaining technical issues, risks, and recommendations to technical and mission stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively remotely, protect government information, maintain reliable connectivity, and travel periodically.
- Desired experience with Amazon EKS in AWS GovCloud or another DoD-authorized cloud environment; DoD Impact Levels 4–6; Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, GitLab, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Argo CD, Helm, Kustomize, observability tools, container security, CAC, DoD PKI, identity providers, RBAC, ABAC, Zero Trust, service mesh, secrets management, policy as code, automated compliance, high availability, disaster recovery, and multi-account AWS architectures.
- AWS, Certified Kubernetes Administrator, Certified Kubernetes Application Developer, Linux, cybersecurity, or related professional certification is desirable.
- Prior experience supporting DoD mission partners, combatant commands, military service components, Special Operations Forces, or other national security customers is desirable.
