Responsibilities
- Build and maintain scalable backend systems processing hundreds of millions of events, alerts, and notifications weekly.
- Lead technical design discussions and make architectural decisions for event processing, alert management, and notification delivery services.
- Own systems end-to-end from design and implementation through testing, deployment, monitoring, and optimization.
- Develop backend infrastructure integrated with AI capabilities.
- Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, technical guidance, and knowledge sharing.
- Contribute to Verkada’s public API for customer integrations.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineering leaders, and cross-functional teams to deliver products.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s-level degree in Computer Science or a similar field.
- At least 5 years of professional backend engineering experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
- Deep expertise in Go, Python, Java, or C++ and strong software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with relational databases including Postgres and MySQL, and non-relational databases including DynamoDB, MongoDB, OpenSearch, and Elasticsearch.
- Experience leading technical initiatives, making architectural decisions, and delivering complex systems to production.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and message-streaming platforms such as Kafka and SQS.
- Experience with cloud environments including AWS, GCP, or Azure and container platforms including Kubernetes and Docker.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and improve team technical standards.
- Willingness and ability to work onsite five days per week.
