Responsibilities
- Design, develop, operate, and improve scalable, maintainable, and high-performance PostgreSQL database solutions.
- Perform PostgreSQL SQL development, query optimization, performance tuning, troubleshooting, partitioning, indexing, storage management, tablespace management, and physical data model design.
- Support Oracle application database administration, legacy Oracle estates, SQL, and import/export utilities.
- Design and operate highly available, resilient, scalable, and secure 24x7 database platforms.
- Resolve database contention and collaborate with application development teams to improve performance and reliability.
- Develop implementation, migration, rollback, recovery, upgrade, and decommissioning strategies for database changes.
- Deliver enterprise-scale Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration and modernization programs, including schema conversion, data migration, validation, and migration testing.
- Implement monitoring, alerting, observability, incident management, root cause analysis, capacity management, and proactive platform health practices.
- Reduce mean time to resolution and improve database platform reliability, scalability, resilience, and operational efficiency.
- Implement database changes through GitLab CI/CD, automated deployment processes, Liquibase, PostgreSQL tooling, Oracle SQLcl, and Shell/Bash scripting.
- Apply secure database configurations, enterprise security and risk controls, compliance practices, and operational governance.
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, platform teams, product owners, business stakeholders, and other functions to deliver technology transformation outcomes.
- Lead complex assignments or teams, guide team members, influence stakeholders, and contribute to policy, controls, and governance decisions.
Requirements
- Senior-level PostgreSQL database administration and engineering experience in large-scale enterprise environments.
- Strong PostgreSQL SQL development, query optimization, performance tuning, and database/application troubleshooting skills.
- Experience designing and operating highly available, resilient, scalable PostgreSQL platforms and large-scale 24x7 production environments.
- Good working knowledge of Oracle Database Administration with an application DBA focus, including SQL and import/export utilities.
- Experience with database contention resolution, application performance optimization, partitioning, indexing, storage management, tablespaces, and physical data model design.
- Proven experience delivering enterprise-scale Oracle-to-PostgreSQL migration and modernization programs.
- Knowledge of database upgrades, migrations, decommissioning, schema conversion, data validation, migration testing, and data migration tools.
- Knowledge of MariaDB, MongoDB, SQL Server, and Oracle.
- Experience supporting cloud and on-premises database platforms through technology transformation initiatives.
- Experience with SRE principles, operational excellence, automation-first delivery, CI/CD pipelines, and automated deployment processes.
- Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, Liquibase, PostgreSQL tooling, Oracle SQLcl, Shell/Bash scripting, and Linux/Unix administration and scripting.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code and configuration-management practices, platform reliability engineering, capacity management, and service availability management.
- Awareness of risk, controls, compliance, and operational governance, with experience delivering large-scale change and transformation initiatives.
- Strong strategic thinking, stakeholder management, communication, influencing, collaboration, problem-solving, and business-acumen skills.
