Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend components for a mission-critical payment processing platform.
- Work with C- and Java-based systems supporting core processing logic and integrations.
- Own delivery from design through implementation, testing, and release.
- Participate in unit testing, CI/CD processes, technical design discussions, and code reviews.
- Collaborate with engineers, QA, business analysts, and client stakeholders in a cross-functional Agile team.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and coordination within the team.
- Identify and help resolve risks, dependencies, and delivery blockers.
- Support alignment between technical solutions and client expectations.
- Work with existing Perl-based integration components when needed.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience.
- Strong programming experience with Java.
- Experience building and maintaining high-performance backend systems.
- Solid understanding of backend architecture, APIs, integrations, and abstraction layers.
- Experience with PostgreSQL, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
- Strong background in card payment processing or banking domains.
- Experience in a technical leadership or cross-functional team lead role.
- Strong ownership, communication, organization, and stakeholder collaboration skills.
- Upper-Intermediate or higher English proficiency and Croatian language proficiency.
- Residence in Croatia or nearby countries and ability to travel periodically to Zagreb.
- Experience with Perl and willingness to work with existing Perl-based integration logic is desirable.
- Experience with C, .NET, and client-facing or on-site collaboration is desirable.
