Base Salary
$170k - $286k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the cloud-side production path from ML model artifacts to Safety AI applications.
- Design and maintain reliable, low-latency ML APIs for integrating model outputs into cloud applications.
- Build scalable data pipelines supporting model iteration, backtesting, shadow evaluation, online evaluation, and automated dataset curation.
- Productionize, optimize, serve, version, and fine-tune models for platform-specific workloads.
- Process high-volume camera and sensor telematics data at petabyte scale.
- Monitor model drift, precision and recall, latency regressions, rollout health, and predictable failure modes.
- Partner with firmware and platform teams to optimize edge-to-cloud model execution, latency, throughput, and infrastructure cost.
- Collaborate with applied scientists and product managers to translate research outputs and safety requirements into scalable production architectures.
- Champion and model Samsara’s cultural principles across the organization.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience as a Machine Learning Engineer or in a similar role, with a record of shipping models to production.
- Strong proficiency in one or more common programming languages, such as C++, Golang, Java, Python, or Scala.
- Proficiency with ML tools such as Ray, Ray Serve, MLflow, Grafana, PyTorch, or Spark.
- Experience deploying and iteratively refining models using real customer feedback loops.
- Comfort with full-stack or backend development and understanding of the data structures and dependencies underlying ML models.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
- Preferred: Ph.D. in Computer Science or a quantitative discipline such as Applied Math, Physics, or Statistics.
- Preferred: experience with Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code frameworks.
- Preferred: experience deploying and managing ML applications in AWS, GCP, or Azure, including cloud storage, processing, and inference.
- Preferred: experience shipping end-to-end ML applications in safety-critical or high-scale domains.
- Preferred: expertise optimizing distributed model training with GPUs.
