Base Salary

$158k - $214k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and operate highly available distributed systems for container scheduling and task placement at AWS-wide scale.
  • Own end-to-end ECS Scheduler feature delivery from design documentation through production deployment.
  • Build high-throughput, low-latency scheduling algorithms in Java for real-time placement decisions.
  • Design resource management systems that optimize utilization and handle capacity constraints across diverse workload types.
  • Lead operational excellence through on-call rotations, COE investigations, deployment safety, and production health ownership.
  • Create technical design documents, lead design reviews, and mentor L4 engineers through code reviews and technical guidance.
  • Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks and scalability challenges.
  • Collaborate with ECS Control Plane, Data Plane, Agent, and Capacity teams on cross-cutting projects.
  • Build operational tooling and automation for diagnostics, root-cause analysis, and observability.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • At least 2 years of non-internship design or architecture experience involving design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
  • At least 1 year of software development engineer or related occupational experience.
  • At least 1 year of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded, or distributed software using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
  • At least 1 year of Object Oriented Design experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • Experience programming with at least one software programming language.
  • Preferred: 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Preferred: bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
