Responsibilities
- Drive the architectural vision and strategic direction for backend firmware systems supporting AI accelerators such as Maia.
- Create firmware architecture for key systems and collaborate with hardware teams on hardware-firmware integration.
- Design firmware components including driver interfaces, system libraries for SoC bring-up, protocols, and low-level hardware features.
- Mentor firmware engineers and provide technical oversight across multiple subsystems and components.
- Coordinate firmware development with hardware and software architects, development, validation, and integration teams.
- Evaluate and prototype emerging cloud firmware and AI hardware technologies.
- Lead system-level debugging, root-cause analysis, and performance tuning across hardware and firmware boundaries.
- Own the firmware lifecycle from concept and design through bring-up, validation, manufacturing, and productization.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electronics engineering, or a related field.
- 14+ years of professional experience in firmware or embedded software development focused on multicore systems and scalable architecture.
- 4+ years of hands-on experience with high-speed Ethernet controller firmware or software.
- Expertise in Ethernet MAC, network transport-layer protocols, traffic management, QoS configuration, and performance optimization.
- Understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking protocols, network processors, optical networking technologies, CMIS specifications, and SFF standards including SFP and QSFP modules.
- Proven experience leading complex SoC bring-up efforts and delivering production-grade firmware solutions.
- Expert-level proficiency in C, C++, or Rust for designing and optimizing low-level firmware components.
- Understanding of computer architecture, including processors, buses, memory hierarchies, and interconnects.
- Understanding of CPU execution modes, memory coherency, protection mechanisms, interrupt controllers, virtualization, and related architecture concepts.
- Hands-on experience with secure bootloaders, platform initialization, and board support packages is preferred.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
