- Define versioned, backward-compatible APIs and event contracts using OpenAPI/Swagger and AsyncAPI.
- Build event-driven flows and transactional messaging patterns with Kafka or Pulsar.
- Apply resiliency, concurrency, asynchronous I/O, performance optimization, and distributed-systems patterns.
- Develop unit, contract, integration, end-to-end, performance, load, and chaos tests.
- Implement observability through distributed tracing, structured logging, metrics, health checks, and golden signals.
- Containerize and deploy services to Kubernetes and implement blue/green and canary releases.
- Automate CI/CD using GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins.
- Modernize legacy database-centric and monolithic systems into scalable microservices architectures.
- Define data migration and co-existence strategies including dual writes, strangler patterns, and phased decommissioning.
- Review architectural and vendor deliverables, guide remediation, and mentor engineers on microservices, performance, observability, testing, and modernization.
Requirements
- 6–8+ years of professional software development experience and 4+ years building Java microservices in production.
- Deep expertise in Java 17+, Spring Boot/Spring Cloud, Gradle or Maven, and REST/JSON.
- Strong Kafka experience including streams, schema registries, consumer groups, partitioning, rebalancing, and transactional data patterns.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, consistency models, retries, idempotency, back pressure, eventual consistency, and caching.
- Hands-on relational database experience with stored procedures, sequences, indexing strategies, and query optimization.
- Demonstrated experience modernizing legacy systems and data models into cloud-native microservices.
- Production experience with Kubernetes and AWS, Azure, or GCP, including networking, secrets, IAM, and cost awareness.
- Strong testing discipline and CI automation experience, including JUnit, AssertJ, Testcontainers, Pact, Gatling, and JMH.
- Expertise with OpenTelemetry, Micrometer, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, traces, and high-cardinality logs.
- Security experience with OAuth2/OIDC/JWT, TLS/mTLS, certificate rotation, vulnerability remediation, and SAST/DAST.
- Experience reviewing architecture and vendor deliverables and guiding remediation.
- Experience with Vert.x and/or gRPC.
- Preferred knowledge of CQRS/Event Sourcing, Temporal/Cadence, Debezium/CDC, Postgres/MySQL, Redis, MongoDB/Cosmos/DocumentDB, Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, API gateways, service mesh, platform engineering, internal developer platforms, or Backstage.
