Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain API Gateway platform components for inbound and outbound traffic.
- Develop NGINX-based configurations and custom modules for gateway and front-end hosting use cases.
- Build automation tooling for resource management, configuration deployment, and release orchestration.
- Implement reliability patterns including circuit breakers, canary deployments, and DDoS mitigation across multiple data centers.
- Collaborate with platform engineers, SREs, security teams, and product teams to onboard domains and define gateway standards.
- Handle P1/P2 incidents, emergency production changes, troubleshooting, and postmortem analysis.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, configuration validation, and controlled production rollouts.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on software engineering experience building and operating distributed systems or platform/infrastructure products.
- Proficiency in Java.
- Experience with Go, Python, C, or Bash is a plus.
- Familiarity with containerization, orchestration, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Knowledge of NGINX configuration, modules, and reverse proxy patterns, or comparable technologies such as Envoy, HAProxy, or Kong.
- Understanding of HTTP/HTTPS, TLS/mTLS, DNS, load balancing, firewalls, and DMZ architectures.
- Strong debugging and incident response skills, including comfort handling P1/P2 incidents.
- Experience or knowledge of API gateways at scale, authentication and authorization protocols, observability tooling, SRE practices, and high-availability or disaster-recovery patterns is preferred.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in a globally distributed, cross-functional environment.
