Responsibilities
- Own the full lifecycle of medium-sized projects, including engineering design, development, testing, production deployment, fixes, and improvements.
- Design, develop, operate, and improve scalable GraphQL APIs and platforms used by multiple teams and consumers.
- Write, review, and maintain clear, tested, production-ready code and technical documentation.
- Solve complex technical problems and optimize systems for scalability, performance, maintainability, reliability, and security.
- Identify security vulnerabilities in code and during code reviews, and contribute to system health and technical debt backlogs.
- Collaborate with engineering leaders, Product Owners, business analysts, and cross-functional squad members to deliver customer-focused solutions.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers while promoting engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Deep expertise in at least one programming language and technology stack, with a strong preference for Node.js and TypeScript in backend systems.
- Strong experience designing and operating GraphQL APIs, including schema design, resolvers, performance, caching, observability, versioning, and deprecation.
- Experience with Apollo GraphQL, including Apollo Server and related tooling; Apollo Federation is beneficial.
- Understanding of synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns, including REST and GraphQL APIs, events, and messaging.
- Experience operating a multi-team GraphQL platform with emphasis on reliability, performance, and developer experience.
- Familiarity with GraphQL frameworks such as Yoga and Apollo.
- Experience with GraphQL query cost analysis, rate limiting, depth limiting, authentication, and authorization patterns.
- Experience with AWS, Docker, and ECS, plus understanding of platform evolution toward Kubernetes.
- Experience designing high-scale, high-traffic web solutions and applying DevOps practices and infrastructure-as-code.
- Practical experience with containerized deployment, DynamoDB, and ElasticSearch/OpenSearch.
- Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and AI-assisted engineering workflows.
- Experience working effectively in Agile environments.
- Nice-to-have experience with C#/.NET, Python, Apollo Federation or other schema composition approaches, production AI/LLM systems, and AWS or other cloud platform certification.
