Responsibilities
- Define architecture and long-term technical strategy for enterprise generative AI platform capabilities spanning retrieval, memory, reasoning, agent orchestration, model interaction, execution, evaluation, extensibility, security, and safety.
- Architect production-grade AI and RAG systems covering ingestion, indexing, embeddings, semantic and hybrid retrieval, context construction, grounding, provenance, re-ranking, and evaluation.
- Design enterprise memory and knowledge architectures with appropriate authorization, provenance, freshness, retention, correction, deletion, and compliance controls.
- Architect agentic and multi-agent systems supporting planning, reasoning, tool use, delegation, collaboration, state and memory management, human-in-the-loop workflows, failure recovery, and bounded autonomy.
- Define identity, authentication, authorization, RBAC, delegated authorization, least-privilege, and multi-tenant isolation architectures for AI agents and distributed workflows.
- Establish security, safety, execution guardrails, reliability, evaluation, telemetry, observability, regression detection, failure recovery, and graceful-degradation frameworks.
- Partner with engineering, research, product, security, privacy, and compliance organizations to balance quality, reliability, latency, cost, security, safety, and operational complexity.
- Provide Principal-level technical leadership through architectural convergence, reusable APIs and frameworks, reference architectures, design reviews, foundational investments, cross-organization alignment, and mentoring.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field plus 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
- Experience coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, Go, JavaScript, or Python.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
- Master’s degree plus 8+ years of experience, or bachelor’s degree plus 12+ years of experience, is preferred as an alternative qualification.
- Extensive experience architecting, building, and operating large-scale distributed systems, cloud services, enterprise platforms, or AI platforms in production.
- Deep experience with generative AI systems architecture, model orchestration, retrieval/RAG, semantic search, memory, context management, tool use, evaluation, safety, and production operations.
- Experience designing agentic and multi-agent AI systems involving planning, reasoning, orchestration, delegation, collaboration, state and memory management, tool use, long-running execution, and failure recovery.
- Experience establishing reusable patterns, frameworks, and platform capabilities for reliable, secure, observable, and scalable AI and agentic systems.
- Deep experience designing identity, authentication, authorization, RBAC, policy-based and resource-level authorization, least privilege, delegated authorization, and multi-tenant isolation for autonomous or agentic systems.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex, ambiguous initiatives, influence architecture across organizational boundaries, mentor senior engineers, establish standards, and communicate technical risks and tradeoffs.
Benefits
- The typical U.S. base pay range is USD $142,800-$274,800 per year, with a different range for specified San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan locations.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
