Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain vector, full-text, and geospatial indexing features for CockroachDB.
- Improve the performance and reliability of vector-indexing backfill, query-planning, and import workflows.
- Integrate new indexing mechanisms into the query engine with other database teams.
- Develop hybrid search capabilities combining vector similarity and text-based search.
- Own work from design through implementation, testing, and release, including design discussions, code reviews, and release planning.
Requirements
- Strong background in backend or systems programming, preferably with Go, C/C++, or Rust.
- Experience with indexing or query-execution systems such as vector, text, or spatial search.
- Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and distributed systems.
- Typically 10+ years of experience building large-scale, production-grade systems.
- Ability to translate ambiguous problems into scalable, production-grade AI-enabled solutions.
- Interest in databases, indexing systems, high-performance distributed architectures, and hybrid workloads.
- Ability to build reliable, maintainable, reusable, and extensible software and collaborate with a distributed global team.
