Senior Lead Software Engineer (Tax Solution), FinTech (Bangkok based, Relocation provided)
AgodaResponsibilities
- Define the architecture vision, technical direction, and long-term roadmap for Agoda’s Tax technology ecosystem.
- Own the architecture of scalable, secure, resilient, observable, and adaptable tax platforms supporting global financial operations.
- Design end-to-end solutions across internal systems, tax engines, APIs, data flows, and selected third-party platforms.
- Work hands-on with engineering teams on system design, implementation trade-offs, proof-of-concepts, and critical architecture components.
- Lead architectural reviews and guide decisions on integration, reliability, maintainability, performance, and operational readiness.
- Translate complex tax rules, compliance requirements, and financial workflows into technical models that engineering teams can implement and operate.
- Assess the current tax technology landscape, identify risks and inefficiencies, and define modernization paths.
- Establish architecture principles, engineering standards, documentation, and governance practices.
- Drive improvements in quality, velocity, cost efficiency, scalability, and developer productivity across Tax and adjacent FinTech systems.
- Mentor and influence senior engineers, Staff engineers, and technical leads while communicating technical trade-offs to senior stakeholders.
- Use AI effectively, including contributing to the solutions designed.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in software engineering, architecture, or technology leadership roles designing and evolving complex production systems.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience delivering tax-related technology projects or closely related finance technology projects, including tax platforms.
- Strong knowledge of VAT, GST, corporate tax, withholding tax, compliance workflows, tax calculation, reporting, reconciliation, and auditability.
- Ability to shape technical strategy and architecture roadmaps across multiple teams, systems, or business domains.
- Deep understanding of system design, APIs, data flows, integration patterns, reliability, observability, scalability, and operational trade-offs for enterprise-scale transactional platforms.
- Ability to translate business, finance, and regulatory requirements into technical models, architecture decisions, and engineering plans.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with senior engineering, product, finance, and business leaders.
- Ability to mentor and influence senior engineers, Staff engineers, technical leads, and cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority.
- Track record of identifying systemic risks, reducing duplication, improving engineering quality, and driving pragmatic modernization.
- Preferred experience with global tax platforms, Avalara, Vertex, OneSource, ERP and financial systems integration, event-driven architecture, streaming, middleware, cloud-native patterns, Kubernetes/EKS, serverless platforms, distributed systems, data privacy, auditability, financial controls, and large-scale platform modernization.
