Java Developer - Vice President - Software Engineering

- Own one or more business-critical applications or platform capabilities end-to-end, including roadmap, architecture, delivery quality, supportability, production stability, resiliency, risk controls, and modernization.
- Lead architecture and design discussions, establish technical direction, evaluate trade-offs, and align solutions with enterprise standards.
- Design and develop core Java, full-stack, and integration solutions while maintaining accountability for broader technical outcomes.
- Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, and global technology teams to deliver scalable, secure, maintainable solutions.
- Drive engineering excellence through reusable design, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, performance, secure coding, documentation, and production readiness.
- Mentor engineers, review designs and code, and raise technical standards across local and global squads.
- Identify modernization opportunities, reduce technical debt, improve platform reliability, and promote common patterns.
- Investigate and resolve production issues through root-cause analysis and durable remediation.
- Create proofs of concept and technical evaluations for new capabilities, frameworks, tools, and architecture patterns.
- Apply AI-assisted development tools responsibly to improve coding, testing, refactoring, documentation, analysis, and developer productivity.
- Participate across the SDLC, including analysis, architecture, design, coding, testing, implementation, deployment, production support, and Agile planning.
Requirements
- 10+ years of hands-on professional experience with Core Java, Java RESTful APIs, Gradle or Maven, Spring, Spring Boot, IBM MQ Series, and related frameworks.
- 5+ years of experience architecting technical solutions and leading design decisions for enterprise-scale applications, platforms, or services.
- Experience owning business-critical applications or platform capabilities, including technical strategy, production stability, risk management, and modernization.
- Experience influencing global teams, mentoring engineers, reviewing designs and code, and driving engineering standards.
- Experience collaborating with business stakeholders, product owners, operations teams, and senior technology stakeholders.
- Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, ChatGPT, or similar tools, with attention to responsible use, security, and code quality.
- Experience working with geographically distributed teams across time zones.
- Strong object-oriented design and development skills.
- Experience with microservices, distributed systems, integration patterns, resiliency, scalability, and fault tolerance.
- Experience building user experiences with React or Angular.
- Experience building server-side applications using J2EE technologies.
- Experience building public-cloud or cloud-ready applications and scalable microservices in Kubernetes.
- Familiarity with OAuth2/OIDC and modern authentication and authorization patterns.
- Experience with databases such as PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, or DB2, including data modeling, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Proficiency in Linux environments and experience with Python, Perl, and Unix shell scripting such as Bash.
- Experience with ETL; Informatica experience is preferred.
- Experience with DevOps practices, deployment automation, observability, production readiness, and automated testing.
- Experience writing unit tests in JUnit; Test Driven Development or Behavior Driven Development experience is preferred.
- Competency with source control, preferably Git, and continuous integration tools such as Jenkins.
- Familiarity with Agile software and tools such as JIRA.
- Ability to write reusable, optimized, maintainable, well-documented code and independently drive complex work to completion.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills across stakeholder groups.
- Minimum BA or BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
