Responsibilities
- Embed with two to three assigned product engineering groups while maintaining a broader platform perspective.
- Own and evolve reference architectures, Infrastructure-as-Code starters, monitoring checklists, runbook templates, and cost models.
- Serve as the escalation point for production and architecture problems and lead technical response to major incidents alongside SRE.
- Set technical standards for review approaches, testing depth, instrumentation, and operational readiness.
- Mentor two to four Application Platform Engineers and develop their technical capabilities.
- Represent platform constraints and capabilities in architecture discussions and coordinate with Release Engineering and SRE roadmaps.
- Lead root-cause analysis and oversee preventive structural fixes after major incidents.
- Evaluate and introduce AI-assisted development, testing, performance, and security tooling.
- Design multi-service architectures and assess failure modes, blast radius, data consistency, and cost.
- Contribute in Go, Python, Node.js/TypeScript, Java, or .NET and remain comfortable in a third language.
- Lead capacity and scalability analysis using profiling and tracing data.
- Build internal tooling and automation frameworks, including AI-assisted migration and review workflows.
- Drive security remediation strategy across the software supply chain.
Requirements
- 9+ years of experience in software, platform, or reliability engineering with current, hands-on coding experience.
- Demonstrated ownership of architecture patterns adopted by teams outside the candidate’s own team.
- Experience operating high-traffic distributed systems in production, including incident response and post-incident structural work.
- Track record of mentoring engineers and raising a team’s technical standards.
- Expert-level proficiency in Go, Python, and Node.js/TypeScript; strong competency in Dart/Flutter; and ability to read or architect in Java, Kotlin, Swift, Objective-C, C++, C, Rust, and C#/.NET.
- Deep expertise in AWS services including EKS, Lambda, RDS, S3, IAM, and VPC, plus production-grade Kubernetes.
- Working knowledge of GCP, GKE, and multi-cloud architecture patterns.
- Advanced expertise in Terraform, Terragrunt, CloudFormation, and Infrastructure-as-Code at scale.
- Mastery of CI/CD automation with GitHub Actions and Harness, including build optimization, artifact management, and security scanning.
- Advanced observability knowledge including OpenTelemetry, Tempo, Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, Datadog, and Instana.
- Expertise in performance testing, capacity planning, and scalability analysis using K6, Locust, or JMeter.
- Advanced database knowledge covering DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra, and SQL Server, including query optimization.
- Expertise with event-driven architectures and message streaming using Confluent Kafka and Redis.
- Security supply-chain expertise with SonarQube, BlackDuck/Coverity, Dependabot, and JFrog.
- Expert use of Claude Code and GitHub Copilot and ability to evaluate AI tooling for adoption.
- Preferred qualifications include mobile DevOps with Fastlane and Flutter/Dart, Swift, or Kotlin builds; Kong API gateway; Okta RBAC; Backstage; Gofr; NodeFr/Zode; LLM integration; prompt engineering; agentic AI orchestration; technical writing or speaking; AWS or GCP Cloud Solutions Architect certifications; and CKA, CKAD, or CKS certifications.
