Responsibilities
- Lead the design, development, and delivery of high-throughput, low-latency Windows services and desktop applications for sortation and labeling.
- Design and maintain TCP socket server and client components for carton lifecycle messaging with PKMS/WMS systems and MHE controllers.
- Implement multithreading and asynchronous programming for predictable performance and throughput.
- Build and maintain WPF desktop interfaces integrated with Windows Service hosts.
- Integrate PLCs, serial devices, scanners, printers, applicators, and material handling equipment with robust error handling and retry logic.
- Own ZPL label design, print pipelines, throughput tuning, and printer/applicator fault recovery.
- Define engineering standards for secure coding, unit testing, Git branching, and code quality.
- Lead deployments, IIS configuration, CI/CD automation, automated testing, and release readiness.
- Monitor application health, manage alerts, triage incidents, and resolve production root causes.
- Partner with distribution center operations, supply chain teams, and third-party MHE vendors to translate operational needs into technical solutions.
- Support MHE interface testing, commissioning, go-live, hypercare, and live floor troubleshooting.
- Identify and deliver AI and automation opportunities for operations, production support, reporting, testing, and productivity.
- Drive sprint planning, estimation, delivery tracking, IT change management, and engineering mentorship.
Requirements
- 10–15 years of software engineering experience, including at least three years in a technical lead or staff-level role.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Extensive hands-on experience with C#, .NET Framework 4.8, multithreading, async/await, TCP/IP sockets, message parsing, custom protocols, and high-volume event processing.
- Experience delivering enterprise-scale .NET applications in retail, supply chain, logistics, warehouse management, sortation, and labeling environments.
- Hands-on integration experience with PKMS, Manhattan WMOS, or comparable WMS platforms, plus WCS, WES, MHE controllers, and enterprise web services.
- Subject-matter expertise in warehouse automation and MHE, including interfaces for induction, scanning, sortation, diverts, put walls, carton and bag creation, weighing, and label print-and-apply systems.
- Experience integrating PLCs, barcode scanners, scales, dimensioners, printers, and applicators over TCP/IP, serial, and OPC-style interfaces.
- Experience with WPF, Windows Service hosting, deployment practices, IIS, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, SQL data access, and relational databases.
- Strong knowledge of SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, ZPL workflows, logging, diagnostics, monitoring, and performance tuning.
- Experience with AppDynamics, Splunk, ELK, Grafana, Kafka, RabbitMQ, GitHub branching strategies, and Sonar or comparable code-quality tools.
- Experience leading third-party vendor integrations and coordinating with vendors such as Savoye, Opex, Honeywell Intelligrated, and Boxer.
- Experience using Jira in Agile delivery environments.
- Experience designing AI-agent-led solutions and applying responsible AI practices involving privacy, security, auditability, compliance, and output validation.
- Demonstrated situational leadership, ownership, business acumen, stakeholder alignment, vendor coordination, and engineer mentoring.
- Ability to troubleshoot live MHE issues, interpret operational metrics, and drive root-cause resolution.
