Responsibilities
- Drive applied AI research and turn it into production features across Mendo’s products.
- Train, fine-tune, and evaluate proprietary language models, including small on-device models.
- Define the AI roadmap and make AI decisions across product, engineering, and sales.
- Build evaluation harnesses using golden sets, regression tests, and LLM-as-judge approaches.
- Optimize AI systems for cost, latency, and quality and prioritize measurable user impact.
- Build AI-powered usage analytics and strategy recommendations for enterprise clients.
- Establish AI engineering practices, playbooks, and tooling for a future AI team.
- Mentor engineers and contribute to hiring as the company scales.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience in ML/AI engineering with a track record of shipping models and AI features to production.
- Strong expertise in LLM fine-tuning, retrieval-augmented generation, embeddings, and evaluation.
- Experience optimizing production AI systems for cost, latency, and quality.
- Solid software engineering fundamentals and experience operating production systems.
- Strong Python skills and the ability to work across a TypeScript product codebase.
- Experience with small language models and on-device or on-premise model deployment is preferred.
- Ability to frame ambiguous AI problems, make pragmatic product decisions, and communicate AI trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
- Excellent technical and professional command of French and English.
