Principal Research Engineer - AI/ML

- Architect end-to-end agent-based and generative AI solutions for complex operational workflows.
- Translate business problems into research hypotheses, success metrics, and production-ready designs.
- Build collaborating agents that coordinate planning and execution across multi-step processes.
- Design reusable services, libraries, and evaluation frameworks for AI and engineering teams.
- Establish offline and online evaluation, monitoring, experimentation, and iterative improvement practices.
- Partner with cross-functional stakeholders to prioritize use cases, define roadmaps, and deliver scalable capabilities.
- Ensure production solutions meet enterprise standards for reliability, security, and maintainability.
- Mentor and coach engineers and researchers through technical leadership, design reviews, and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Formal training or certification in applied AI and machine learning concepts and 10+ years of applied experience.
- Master’s or doctorate in computer science, engineering, statistics, or a related quantitative discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience deploying machine learning or generative AI systems into production at enterprise scale.
- Strong foundation in machine learning fundamentals, experimental design, and data-driven decision-making.
- Experience designing distributed systems for model training, inference, and stateful production services.
- Ability to create and improve evaluation strategies for agent-based systems, including quality, safety, latency, cost, and reliability.
- Strong programming and engineering skills with experience building maintainable, reusable components used by other teams.
- Ability to lead through influence and align technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Preferred experience operating machine learning workloads on AWS, including Amazon SageMaker or Amazon Bedrock.
- Preferred publication history, open-source contributions, or applied research impact in large language models, reinforcement learning, or autonomous agents.
- Preferred experience with containerized, cloud-native deployment patterns such as Kubernetes-based platforms.
- Preferred familiarity with AI governance, privacy, model safety, responsible use, and regulated-industry applications.
