Responsibilities
- Lead projects from concept through design, delivery, operations, rollout, and customer follow-up.
- Design, build, and operate distributed database ingestion, storage, and query components.
- Shape the product roadmap through customer conversations, product discovery, and direct prioritization.
- Own service outcomes against SLOs and unit-cost targets, reduce toil through automation, and improve on-call operations.
- Collaborate with App Observability, Alloy, Tempo, and other Databases teams to integrate profiling across Grafana.
- Support teammates through design discussions, code review, and pairing.
- Participate in the EMEA on-call rotation and contribute to incident response and post-incident learning.
- Contribute to the Pyroscope open-source community, including reviewing external contributions and helping guide the project.
- Develop capabilities including Adaptive Profiles, trace-to-profile correlation, agent-ready APIs and CLI tooling, BYOC automation, autoscaling, and OpenTelemetry-native profiling.
Requirements
- Solid experience with a systems programming language; Pyroscope is written in Go, and experience with Rust, C, C++, Python, or Java is also relevant.
- Production experience building and operating distributed cloud services and multi-tenant data systems.
- Ability to engage with customers, work through ambiguity, and translate problems into deliverable projects.
- Strong software craftsmanship, including writing clean, robust, performant, and maintainable software.
- Operational experience such as carrying a pager, doing SRE-style work, or working with infrastructure as code.
- Pragmatic approach to breaking complex problems into short feedback loops and iterating from MVPs.
- Clear written communication and ability to work effectively in a fully remote, asynchronous environment.
- Experience with profiling or performance engineering tools such as flamegraphs, pprof, or perf is a bonus.
- Experience with OpenTelemetry, large-scale observability systems, Kubernetes-based multi-tenant SaaS infrastructure, AI/LLM consumers, open-source projects, or Grafana, Prometheus, or Pyroscope is a bonus.
