Responsibilities
- Own backend features or components through technical direction, design, implementation, testing, documentation, release, and post-release health.
- Design and review customer-extensible integration and protocol interfaces with versioning and backward compatibility.
- Design for failure and scale across rate limits, timeouts, partial responses, remote-system failures, high throughput, and long-running operations.
- Investigate escalated customer integration failures across platform, network, and remote systems, driving root-cause fixes and preventive improvements.
- Address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and reliability risks.
- Mentor IC1 and IC2 engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and pairing while setting quality standards.
- Collaborate with product management, user experience, quality engineering, and adjacent platform teams on scope and delivery.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience with ownership of backend systems or production services.
- Expert-level Java or JavaScript/Node.js skills and strong computer science fundamentals, including concurrency, memory management, and performance profiling.
- Experience designing, consuming, and debugging integrations with third-party systems, including inconsistent or undocumented behavior.
- Strong knowledge of OAuth 2.0, JWT, mutual TLS, and API key authentication flows and their security trade-offs.
- Experience designing APIs or extension points with versioning and backward compatibility requirements.
- Production experience with debugging, root-cause analysis, data modeling, SQL, query optimization, and automated testing.
- Experience improving team test strategy, mentoring engineers, and leading technical design discussions.
- Experience leveraging or critically evaluating AI in work processes, decision-making, problem-solving, workflow automation, or analysis.
- Preferred experience with JSON-RPC, WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, streaming or long-lived connections, AWS EKS, Azure Kubernetes Service, Google Kubernetes Engine, MCP, tool or function calling, agent-facing APIs, JDBC, ODBC, query engine internals, platform or developer-facing products, SDKs, connectors, integration frameworks, and React.
- Agile, sprint-based development experience and clear written communication through design documents and technical decision records.
