$165k - $300k/yr

Responsibilities

Own and deliver highly visible software projects supporting railroad logistics and freight movement.
Drive technical and architectural vision for full-stack product, platform, and enterprise software.
Design, build, test, deliver, and operate messaging systems, microservices, data platforms, serverless runtimes, customer experiences, and AI/ML-enabled solutions.
Develop APIs, automation, and tools for platform integration and build monitoring and alerting systems.
Design and operate scalable distributed systems across data centers, edge devices, and cloud environments.
Own architecture for large-scale complex systems and make technical decisions balancing business and engineering trade-offs.
Drive cross-team alignment, establish coding and design best practices, and serve as a technical subject matter expert.
Mentor and develop engineers, including senior engineers, and anticipate and mitigate technical risks.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve production issues while participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation.

Authorized to work in the United States.
At least 6 years of software development or related experience.
At least 6 years of programming experience with a modern programming language such as Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
Experience with distributed systems, messaging frameworks, API gateways, SQL, NoSQL and graph databases, caching systems, and serverless platforms.
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, DevOps practices, and secure coding principles.
Familiarity with observability stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetry.
Experience working cross-functionally, participating in design reviews, incident retrospectives, or RFC processes, and mentoring or serving as a tech lead.
Preferred: bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field.
Preferred: experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP and operating large-scale distributed systems in production.
Preferred: experience with serverless runtimes, event-driven architectures, developer tooling, distributed-system control planes, and frameworks such as React, Angular, Node.js, or Spring Boot.
Preferred: at least 5 years covering the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control, build processes, testing, and operations.
Able to work now and in the future without BNSF assistance in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization.

Full-time remote work from anywhere within the contiguous 48 states, with up to 20% travel and occasional required meetings at the Fort Worth, Texas headquarters.
Business travel expenses are covered by BNSF.
