Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate internal platform services and CLIs for authoring, scheduling, validating, and shipping analytics and operational data-modeling changes.
- Improve reliability and operability through monitoring, incident-response patterns, safe rollouts, and clear runbooks.
- Lead large-scale migrations and deprecations involving storage and table formats, orchestration, and query engines.
- Drive cost and performance improvements by identifying bottlenecks, right-sizing workloads, and building guardrails.
- Build developer-experience tools and workflows for data producers and consumers, including fast feedback loops, golden paths, self-service workflows, and actionable error messages.
- Partner across teams to standardize metadata, access, testing, and promotion-pipeline patterns while preserving legitimate exceptions.
Requirements
- Design maintainable systems and operate them responsibly in production while reasoning about correctness, reliability, and performance at scale.
- Demonstrate production ownership, including rollout and rollback planning, impact monitoring, and post-launch follow-through.
- Apply systems thinking through clear interfaces and contracts, explicit failure modes, and pragmatic tradeoffs among correctness, freshness, cost, and complexity.
- Reason about backfills, idempotency, schema evolution, and blast radius across downstream datasets.
- Be proficient with at least one major cloud platform: GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Preferred experience includes BigQuery, Airflow or Composer, Iceberg or Delta, data lake or lakehouse operations, and large-scale platform migrations.
