Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and architecture of complex Datastore systems and data-platform projects.
  • Design and scale PostgreSQL data models, Kafka-driven event pipelines, warehouse snapshot pipelines, and GraphQL APIs.
  • Translate requirements from product, scientific, clinical, platform, application, and external stakeholders into integrations, services, and solutions.
  • Debug and profile ambiguous cross-system problems while improving structure, test coverage, tooling, and maintainability.
  • Draft RFCs, lead technical discovery, incorporate feedback, and guide implementation decisions.
  • Plan individual and team work while balancing delivery speed, generalizability, technical debt, and stakeholder needs.
  • Mentor engineers, provide actionable feedback, and potentially serve as a project technical lead or engineering-practice coordinator.
  • Improve Datastore operational robustness and usability through documentation, tools, and dashboards.

Requirements

  • At least 7 years of backend development experience, including at least 3 years focused on data platforms and backend infrastructure for data-centric applications.
  • Deep proficiency in at least one of data modeling, distributed systems, API design, or database engineering.
  • Strong SQL proficiency and production PostgreSQL experience, including schema design, indexes, query tuning, and query-plan analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with streaming and event processing using Kafka or an equivalent such as RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Amazon Kinesis.
  • Proficiency in Julia or Python; Julia experience is welcomed but not required.
  • Experience with GraphQL and TypeScript or JavaScript, including Node.js.
  • Experience deploying and operating containerized services, with familiarity with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Helm.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and improving team practices, tooling, test coverage, or documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work across disciplines in asynchronous, hybrid, or remote teams.
  • Experience with or interest in production use of LLM-assisted or agentic coding tools and appropriate guardrails.
