Base Salary
$238k - $302k/yr
Responsibilities
- Provide deep technical leadership on large-scale machine learning model architectures for autonomous vehicle models.
- Build scalable systems for training and fine-tuning large-scale models to evaluate driving behaviors.
- Develop systems at the intersection of data engineering, model development, and simulation.
- Guide architectural decisions and technical direction while owning large, complex systems.
- Oversee production and optimization of machine learning models evaluating Waymo’s vehicle fleet.
- Design and scale distributed systems for dataset generation, model training, and evaluation across the ML lifecycle.
- Translate product and business goals into measurable technical deliverables and align system components with cross-functional requirements.
Requirements
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, including at least 3 years developing, designing, scaling, training, deploying, and optimizing large-scale machine learning infrastructure.
- Contributions to machine learning tooling and frameworks such as PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow, Ray, or similar, with understanding of both user-facing APIs and internal workings.
- Expertise in distributed training techniques, gradient sharding, optimization strategies, and ML accelerator profiling.
- Deep understanding of state-of-the-art machine learning models, including autoregressive transformers.
- Experience providing technical leadership across cross-functional teams.
- Preferred: 7+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 5 years in machine learning infrastructure.
- Preferred: Experience in autonomous vehicles, robotics, complex simulation environments, large-scale simulation platforms, AI system evaluation metrics, and reinforcement learning techniques.
- Preferred: Track record of technical leadership, senior stakeholder influence, cross-team innovation, and clear communication of complex technical concepts.
