Responsibilities
- Own and deliver quarterly and long-term strategic engineering outcomes.
- Lead engineers through ambiguous and open-ended problems by providing clarity and direction.
- Influence the architecture and technical strategy of large-scale data and backend systems across multiple teams.
- Collaborate with product, analytics, design, compliance, servicing, and credit stakeholders on data-driven solutions.
- Improve availability and reliability through monitoring, alerting, recovery, and reduced operational burden.
- Mentor engineers through technical leadership, code reviews, and design reviews.
- Author technical proposals, document best practices, and share knowledge through tech talks.
- Build systems that provide accurate and timely data from Affirm’s financial products to Consumer Reporting Agencies.
Requirements
- 6+ years of experience designing and building large-scale data pipelines and distributed backend systems.
- Strong proficiency in Python, Kotlin, or similar programming languages.
- Experience delivering high-volume, highly available systems using AWS, MySQL, Airflow, Spark, and Kubernetes.
- Experience defining technical strategies for complex, cross-team initiatives and designing scalable, extensible systems.
- Experience building resilient systems with monitoring, alerting, and safe deployment practices.
- Experience driving significant changes in large, complex codebases.
- Track record of mentoring engineers, unblocking teams, and shaping engineering practices beyond the immediate team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for influencing technical and product decisions.
