Responsibilities
- Design, implement, test, maintain, and operate backend services and high-volume data pipelines in cloud environments.
- Build content ingestion, processing, validation, deduplication, enrichment, and delivery workflows for XML and other semi-structured scholarly content.
- Implement ETL/ELT processes, data quality checks, automated testing, observability, monitoring, and performance optimization.
- Integrate internal systems with third-party platforms using APIs and middleware, and support system migrations, upgrades, and cloud adoption.
- Debug data, integration, performance, and operational issues; investigate incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement permanent fixes.
- Contribute to shared libraries, reusable components, internal tooling, workflow automation, documentation, and technical controls for logging, lineage, and access trails.
- Ensure data governance and compliance with China regulatory requirements, including the Cybersecurity Law and PIPL.
- Collaborate with product, architecture, engineering, business, and global teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of hands-on experience as a software engineer working on backend or data-intensive systems.
- Bachelor's degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong software engineering fundamentals, including data structures, system design, testing, and debugging.
- Strong programming experience in Python or Java and advanced SQL and relational database expertise.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake, ETL/ELT pipelines, AWS or Alibaba Cloud, Databricks, Spark, Kafka, and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Cassandra.
- Experience with system integration, APIs, data exchange mechanisms, SOAP, JSON, XML, containerization, and cloud-based data processing.
- Experience with data warehouse projects, performance tuning, troubleshooting, pipeline monitoring, reliability engineering, data lifecycle management, architecture, governance, and compliance standards.
- Familiarity with Tableau or Power BI and strong understanding of security principles in data systems.
- English reading and writing proficiency for technical reviews and oral English communication for global meetings and reviews.
- Preferred experience includes TensorFlow, SageMaker, Elasticsearch, ELK, data modeling, enterprise analytics, cloud-native big data, ERP, CRM, GDPR, HIPAA, MCP, AI agents, and AI-assisted development tools.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, communication, stakeholder management, collaboration, ownership, adaptability, and ability to work independently in global or distributed teams.
