Responsibilities
- Own high-level solution design, engineering standards, engineering performance, and technology decisions within the Platform Capabilities Engineering Group.
- Lead platform-domain technical strategy, roadmaps, target system architecture, data architecture, and delivery milestones.
- Perform hands-on technical deep-dives and troubleshoot issues while enabling teams to solve future problems independently.
- Evaluate centralised versus bespoke platform investments and drive adoption across customer-facing product teams.
- Use Generative AI tools and techniques to improve engineering processes and help the organisation become AI Native.
- Communicate technology solutions, risks, and tradeoffs to stakeholders and influence without direct reporting authority.
- Coach, mentor, and sponsor engineers and represent Funding Circle at external events.
Requirements
- Experienced Staff Engineer or equivalent engineering leader with a strong record of building successful internal platforms or SaaS platforms.
- Experience serving as the technical lead for a platform domain or as a SaaS founding or lead engineer.
- Understanding of internal platform benefits and limitations, including when to choose centralisation versus bespoke solutions and how to drive adoption.
- Experience with at least one major programming language, such as Python, Ruby, or Java.
- Strong hands-on problem-solving ability combined with technical leadership and high-level decision-making skills.
- Commercial acumen and the ability to connect technology and platform outcomes to customer and business performance.
- Proven experience adopting emerging technologies, particularly Generative AI, to solve complex engineering challenges and drive organisational change.
- Passion for empowered engineering teams, coaching, mentoring, and sponsorship.
