Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, deliver, and operate distributed backend services for Apple Card and Savings.
- Own features end to end from specification through production, including technical design, code review, documentation, and operational support.
- Ship changes through automated pipelines and controlled rollouts, participate in on-call rotations and incident response, and conduct post-incident improvements.
- Build reliable integrations with financial institutions, payment networks, Wallet, Apple Cash, iCloud, and other Apple services.
- Write unit and integration tests, automate operational toil, maintain service reliability, and mentor and onboard teammates.
Requirements
- Experience building and operating production distributed systems, including services supported on call.
- Strong understanding of distributed-systems fundamentals such as idempotency, retries, timeouts, and consistency trade-offs.
- Proficiency in a modern backend language such as Kotlin or Java.
- Experience debugging production issues with logs, metrics, and traces and implementing post-incident fixes.
- Experience writing thorough unit and integration tests and designing testable code.
- Clear written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders and external partners.
- No formal degree is required; demonstrated ability to apply advanced skills to real-world applications is valued.
- Experience using generative AI tools throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Preferred experience with Kotlin, Spring, high transaction volumes, JVM performance, connection pools, and API contracts.
- Preferred experience in payments, banking, regulated financial domains, reconciliation, audit trails, compliance, consumer protection, and privacy.
- Preferred experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, multi-region resilience, and failover.
- Preferred experience with infrastructure as code, safe release practices, canary deployments, feature flags, and automated rollback.
- Preferred experience with Datadog, Splunk, OpenTelemetry, SLOs, and actionable alerting.
- Preferred experience with event-driven architectures, Kafka or equivalent event streaming, and SQL or NoSQL databases such as Aurora and DynamoDB.
- Understanding of security and privacy fundamentals, including mTLS, PKI, certificate lifecycle management, and JWT.
