Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction of the Hedging team’s exposure, position, risk management, smart hedging, venue routing, market making, cost, PnL, and net revenue systems.
- Lead design discussions, resolve technical decisions, and break ambiguous initiatives into executable workstreams.
- Write code and act as the senior technical engineer, mentoring engineers through design collaboration, pairing, and feedback.
- Review work and maintain a high quality bar for technically coherent, tested, observable, reconcilable, and operationally safe systems.
- Drive technical debt reduction and take end-to-end accountability for technical execution of the roadmap.
- Partner with Product, Operations, treasury, and finance to deliver and drive adoption of work.
- Lead production risk response and convert post-mortems into durable systemic fixes.
Requirements
- 6–8 years of experience building and operating production backend systems, including time as the technical lead of a team or workstream.
- Professional experience at a trading company, exchange, or brokerage building systems on a live trade, order, or risk path.
- Strong system design skills and the ability to decompose complex problems into implementable, well-structured pieces with clear contracts.
- Solid command of object-oriented programming principles and low-level design patterns.
- Strong production engineering experience with observability, complex-system debugging, performance tuning, and incident response for 24/7 systems.
- Ability to drive decisions through influence without formal authority, work through ambiguity, write clearly, and operate effectively in an async-heavy distributed environment.
- Hands-on coding ability, high agency, data-driven decision-making, and effective use of AI coding tools.
- Preferred experience includes hedging, exposure or risk management, multi-venue execution, smart order routing, market making, PnL, cost-basis or position-keeping logic, reconciliation, FX, multi-currency systems, cross-border payments, or mentoring engineers.
