Senior / Lead Software Engineer - Database/Distributed Storage Engineering

Responsibilities
- Build and ship secure, optimized, production-grade software using AI-assisted engineering workflows.
- Design and orchestrate scalable, resilient, fault-tolerant transactional and distributed systems.
- Develop highly available and durable distributed storage capabilities for public cloud database systems.
- Maintain shared system context containing system designs, constraints, and engineering standards.
- Critically evaluate human- and AI-generated code for correctness, quality, security, and performance.
- Write functional and unit tests and help review and test teammates’ code.
- Use telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence.
- Work with public cloud environments, clustering solutions, Kubernetes, and cloud-provider APIs.
- Mentor and collaborate with engineers while delivering incrementally in a fast-paced team environment.
Requirements
- 5–9+ years of professional experience, or a relevant M.Sc. and 3–7+ years of professional experience.
- Strong proficiency in Java or C in a Unix/Linux environment.
- Experience designing and developing scalable, resilient, and fault-tolerant transactional and distributed systems in enterprise production environments.
- Experience with AI development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or Cursor.
- Advanced prompt engineering skills and the ability to cultivate reliable, secure, production-ready system context.
- Experience using telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence.
- Experience with relational databases or distributed storage.
- A thorough understanding of distributed systems, system programming, and system resources.
- Practical knowledge of clustering solutions, public cloud deployment, Kubernetes, and cloud-provider APIs is highly desired.
- Ability to write functional and unit tests, review code, communicate effectively, and mentor or be mentored.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodology and a commitment to continual team improvement.

- The typical base salary range is $117,200–$260,100 annually; select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan locations have a $141,200–$285,800 annual range.
