Base Salary
$175k - $210k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build, scale, and maintain high-performance backend services and APIs for the ION Factory OS.
- Own the relationship between the application layer and AWS infrastructure, including cloud architecture and delivery support.
- Evaluate and evolve backend and cloud architecture for growth in customers, data volume, and product surface area.
- Improve application and infrastructure reliability through SLOs, SLIs, incident response, postmortems, and capacity planning.
- Lead performance optimization across application code, databases, caching, asynchronous processing, and AWS services.
- Create scalable libraries, patterns, CI/CD tooling, and developer-platform primitives that improve engineering velocity and reduce risk.
- Mentor engineers and establish technical standards for backend development, operational maturity, and cloud architecture.
- Assess current backend and infrastructure risks, create a hardening plan and scaling roadmap, and lead a high-impact improvement initiative.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production-grade backend code and owning infrastructure.
- Strong hands-on coding skills in modern backend languages such as Python, Go, or Node.js.
- Deep experience building, deploying, and managing complex systems on AWS, including EC2, EKS/ECS, RDS, VPCs, and IAM, with infrastructure as code such as Terraform.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, relational databases, caching, message queues, and API design.
- Track record of leading large technical initiatives across teams or complex codebases.
- Preferred experience as a Staff Software Engineer, Tech Lead, or senior platform engineer in a high-scale environment.
- Preferred depth in SRE or reliability engineering, database scalability, multi-tenant architectures, or zero-downtime data migrations.
- Preferred experience building internal platforms and developer tooling that abstract infrastructure complexity from product engineers.
- Experience in or affinity for manufacturing, industrial software, or hard-tech customer environments is preferred.
