Responsibilities
- Lead all crypto-related engineering for Alpaca’s regulated spot and derivatives exchanges.
- Architect, specify, and build a perpetual futures exchange with matching, collateral, liquidation, risk, API, KYC/AML, regulatory reporting, settlement, clearing, custody, banking, order management, accounting, analytics, and compliance integrations.
- Design highly scalable, mission-critical exchange systems supporting high trading volume and low latency.
- Implement backend services and web applications.
- Maintain software quality and test coverage and participate in code reviews.
- Troubleshoot incidents and reported bugs and provide on-call assistance for timely engineering projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define goals and independently design and implement solutions.
Requirements
- At least 4 years of backend software development experience.
- Experience building a CLOB exchange, HFT, market-making system, high-performance matching engine, margin or liquidation engine, or another high-throughput, low-latency, regulated, fault-tolerant financial system.
- Experience building crypto systems.
- BSc, MSc, or equivalent experience in Computer Science or a related field.
- Experience with at least one modern programming language such as GoLang, Python, C, C++, NodeJS, or Java; the platform is based in Golang.
- SQL or relational database skills.
- Hands-on knowledge of Bash, Linux, and Docker.
- Preferred qualifications include Kubernetes experience, CKA or CKAD certification, NoSQL experience, CI/CD experience, major cloud platform experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure, and familiarity with financial markets, Agile/Scrum, microservice architectures, and clean code principles.
