$199k - $268k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own research, development, evaluation, launch, and iteration of reusable intelligent capabilities from scientific signal through product integration.
- Define personalization technology strategy for representing users and delivering relevant content across product surfaces.
- Build evaluation frameworks, offline evaluations, shadow-mode testing infrastructure, rubrics, and reusable tooling.
- Support causal and counterfactual model development and design experiments that measure behavioral and health impact.
- Mentor scientists and engineers and establish strong team practices around experimentation and evaluation.
- Collaborate with engineering, science, product, and design teams across the US and EU to shape personalization within the member experience.
- Communicate technical trade-offs, uncertainty, and modeling assumptions clearly across functions.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in applied AI, AI research, and backend engineering.
- Deep experience building and evaluating AI/LLM-backed products, including LLM-as-judge, rubric-based evaluation, safety red-teaming, and offline versus online assessment.
- Demonstrated ability to build and own backend systems serving millions of users and ship robust production experimentation frameworks.
- Hands-on experience with retrieval, ranking, recommendation systems, collaborative filtering, embedding-based approaches, or graph networks.
- Experience with model serving, pipeline architecture, deployment infrastructure, and integrating recommendation or retrieval signals with LLM-powered generation.
- Experience with grounding, constrained decoding, prompt design, shadow testing, staged rollouts, proxy metrics, and lightweight evaluation workflows.
- Experience framing personalization problems, modeling user trajectories, and working with stateful or sequential data.
- Exposure to causal methods such as uplift modeling, treatment effect estimation, counterfactual evaluation, and experiment design.
- Evidence of influencing technical direction, mentoring others, shaping team practices, or leading cross-functional scientific initiatives.
- Strong communication skills for explaining complex systems, trade-offs, modeling assumptions, and uncertainty to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong proficiency in Python for data analysis and modeling and experience with modern data tooling.
- A graduate degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related quantitative field is strongly preferred.
- Experience with personalization for consumer behavior change or health outcomes and familiarity with health, wearables, or digital therapeutics are beneficial.
- Comfort working outside core hours with distributed teams across time zones is beneficial.
