Responsibilities
- Design, build, test, and document core Tailscale client-side networking software.
- Develop connectivity features between clients, subnet routers, exit nodes, and customer network infrastructure.
- Apply and extend industry networking protocols alongside Tailscale-specific designs and frameworks.
- Optimize software performance, reliability, and scalability across technical platforms and hardware.
- Provide architectural insights and resolve complex customer network connectivity issues.
- Support customer success teams with critical network escalations.
- Contribute to relevant open-source projects and collaborate with product management and engineering teams.
Requirements
- Significant experience developing networking software and diagnosing networking issues.
- Comprehensive understanding of routing, VPNs, IP address management, and NAT traversal.
- Proficiency in Go or another low-level language such as C, C++, or Rust.
- Strong understanding of concurrent programming and performance optimization techniques.
- Large-scale distributed-systems experience is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of low-level operating-system network stacks is highly desirable.
- Ability to work independently, adapt to a dynamic startup environment, and give and receive constructive feedback.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
