Responsibilities
- Drive the technical direction and architecture of backend services and APIs for the Adoption and Onboarding team.
- Design, build, and operate scalable REST and GraphQL APIs, including schema design, versioning, authentication, performance optimization, and lifecycle management.
- Own backend service design, performance, developer experience, API contracts, observability, and operational health.
- Design customer-facing React UI architecture, including component design, state management, and client-side performance.
- Build low-latency backend services using event-driven architectures, idempotent API design, caching strategies, and distributed systems principles.
- Partner with Data Engineering and Machine Learning teams to integrate data pipelines, model serving, and AI-powered customer experiences.
- Lead initiatives improving developer productivity, code quality, platform health, and operational excellence.
- Define and uphold KPIs and SLOs and contribute to incident response for customer-impacting issues.
- Champion responsible adoption of AI-assisted development tools and establish engineering best practices.
- Communicate complex technical solutions through design documents, architecture reviews, and technical discussions.
- Mentor junior engineers through architecture guidance, code reviews, design feedback, and hands-on collaboration.
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering leadership, and globally distributed engineering teams on large-scale initiatives.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience architecting end-to-end solutions and building and scaling data-intensive web applications and resilient backend services.
- Deep hands-on experience with Node.js, REST and GraphQL APIs, PostgreSQL, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, idempotent API design, schema versioning, caching such as Redis, and modern API integration patterns.
- Working knowledge of React and TypeScript for full-stack collaboration.
- Experience designing, building, and operating REST and GraphQL APIs at scale, including authentication, performance optimization, API versioning, and lifecycle management.
- Experience with relational and document databases, scalable data modeling, and query-performance optimization for high-throughput applications.
- Experience partnering with Data Engineering and Machine Learning teams to ship production features involving data pipelines, model serving, and ML-driven experiences.
- Experience adopting AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or GitHub Copilot in a production engineering environment.
- Strong foundation in software design principles, Object-Oriented Programming, Test-Driven Development, Service-Oriented Architecture, and distributed systems.
- Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle, including testing strategy, deployment, runtime platforms, monitoring, observability, and incident response.
- Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment and anticipating technical challenges within large-scale initiatives.
- Strong experience documenting architecture and clarifying complex technical solutions.
- Experience collaborating with globally distributed teams across multiple time zones.
- Fluent spoken and written English.
