Base Salary
$203k - $235k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and evolve scalable backend systems for search, recommendations, personalization, and content discovery.
- Lead distributed-systems architecture with emphasis on scalability, low latency, resiliency, observability, and operational excellence.
- Build and optimize APIs, metadata services, indexing pipelines, ranking systems, and recommendation infrastructure.
- Partner with product, machine learning, data, and platform teams to improve discovery relevance, personalization, and experimentation.
- Improve developer productivity, deployment safety, service reliability, tooling, automation, documentation, and operational workflows.
- Define engineering practices for API design, data consistency, caching, asynchronous processing, resiliency, and monitoring.
- Identify and address performance bottlenecks, scaling challenges, and operational risks.
- Support experimentation and A/B testing frameworks for discovery and recommendation experiences.
- Mentor engineers and provide technical leadership through design reviews and architecture discussions.
- Influence long-term technical direction and alignment across engineering organizations.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience designing and building large-scale backend systems and microservices architectures.
- Strong proficiency in backend development, distributed-systems design, API architecture, and cloud-native technologies.
- Experience operating high-traffic production services with knowledge of scalability, fault tolerance, observability, and reliability principles.
- Strong experience with large-scale video streaming, media, or consumer content platforms.
- Experience with search, recommendation, personalization, metadata, or large-scale content delivery systems, preferably in streaming.
- Strong understanding of caching, asynchronous processing, event-driven architectures, and distributed data consistency.
- Experience with AWS or similar cloud platforms and modern infrastructure and deployment patterns.
- Experience improving engineering productivity through platform capabilities, automation, tooling, or developer experience initiatives.
- Familiarity with experimentation platforms, analytics pipelines, or machine-learning integration workflows is preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, technical leadership, collaboration, ownership, and cross-functional influence skills.
