Base Salary
$90k - $120k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own the availability, performance, capacity, and full lifecycle of production PostgreSQL clusters.
- Manage provisioning, configuration, maintenance, scaling, decommissioning, backups, point-in-time recovery, replication, high availability, restore tests, and failover drills.
- Build monitoring, alerting, automation, tooling, standardized workflows, and self-service database capabilities.
- Collaborate with product-engineering teams on schema migrations, query patterns, and PostgreSQL best practices.
- Troubleshoot database, operating system, network, and application-layer issues and lead incident response and root-cause analysis.
- Lead incident reviews, define platform service objectives, mentor DBREs, review technical work, and maintain runbooks and documentation.
- Participate in the Database Services on-call rotation and planned maintenance windows.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience running PostgreSQL in large-scale production or SaaS environments.
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL internals, including MVCC, vacuum, WAL, locking, concurrency, and query planning.
- Production experience with PostgreSQL capacity planning, backup and recovery, replication, high availability, upgrades, indexing, SQL tuning, partitioning, schema migrations, incident response, and root-cause analysis.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams and participating in on-call rotations and scheduled maintenance windows.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
- Preferred qualifications include experience with PostgreSQL at scale, automated partitioning, Patroni or comparable HA systems, PgBouncer or equivalent, zero-downtime operations and upgrades, Kubernetes, Linux, Jenkins, ArgoCD, Ansible, Python, Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry, OCI, YugabyteDB, or Apache Cassandra.

- Annual base salary range of $90,000-$120,000.
