Base Salary
$180k - $220k/yr
Responsibilities
- Collaborate across product, design, and engineering to turn interactive prototypes into production-ready code and improve related processes and tools.
- Improve design system usability, responsiveness, motion, and overall release quality.
- Add micro-interactions and make delight a core part of product delivery.
- Maintain and expand shared components, primitives, and tokens across mobile and web.
- Build functional prototypes with code to resolve product questions and guide feature direction.
- Mentor frontend engineers, run craft critiques, and establish frontend patterns and standards.
- Bring design-and-engineering insights into roadmap discussions and solution framing.
Requirements
- At least five years of experience building production frontend software for consumer products, including at least two years in a Design Engineer-style role.
- Deep comfort with React, React Native ideally, TypeScript, and modern CSS.
- Hands-on experience with Figma, shared component libraries, and design system optimization.
- A portfolio demonstrating shipped work where product craft, animation, edge cases, typography, and responsive quality are priorities.
- Strong product instincts, ownership of ambiguous problems, and the ability to create immersive prototypes from evolving requirements.
- Ability to work in person in NYC five days per week.
- Experience with consumer, social, or marketplace products is a plus.
- Experience owning cross-platform design systems spanning web and React Native is a plus.
- Experience collaborating closely with senior product designers is a plus.
- Past experience as a tech lead on a small pod is a plus.
- Side projects, open-source contributions, or public writing demonstrating craft are a plus.
