Responsibilities
- Lead projects as a principal investigator and project manager, ensuring requirements are met on schedule.
- Develop software that creates data-driven intelligence for products using Big Data backends.
- Perform exploratory data analysis and develop efficient data structures and algorithms.
- Develop advanced algorithms and, where applicable, machine-learning models and pipelines.
- Manage large-scale data stores, including NoSQL, time-series, and geospatial databases.
- Create metrics and evaluate algorithms for improved accuracy and recall.
- Optimize data access and usage through indexing, clustering, and related techniques.
- Collaborate with engineering and product development teams.
- Mentor and manage team members and take responsibility for team deadlines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, information technology, information systems, or a related field, or a master’s degree or higher in statistics or mathematics, with hands-on software development experience.
- 8–10 years of product development experience involving algorithmic work.
- 5+ years of experience working with large datasets or performing large-scale quantitative analysis.
- Understanding of SaaS products and services, software architecture, and software design.
- Strong algorithmic problem-solving skills and understanding of machine-learning algorithms.
- Experience fully managing projects with teams and working with Agile project management practices.
- In-depth knowledge of Python programming.
- Experience with data processing, analytics, and visualization tools in Python, such as pandas, matplotlib, and SciPy.
- Strong understanding of SQL and querying NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, and Redis.
- Understanding of managing large databases, including indexing, sharding, and caching.
- Knowledge of Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, YARN, Redshift, Spark, Kafka, Pig, and Hive.
- Understanding of geospatial data stores; PostGIS experience is a plus.
- Data visualization experience is desirable.
- Ability to mentor and manage teams and take responsibility for team deadlines.
