Responsibilities
- Own the customer files orchestration service end to end, including design, implementation, testing, deployment, scaling, and operation.
- Design distributed systems with appropriate consistency models, delivery guarantees, crash recovery, asynchronous boundaries, and durable state management.
- Build fair queuing, rate limiting, backpressure, circuit breaking, dead-letter handling, and autoscaling capabilities for high-volume multi-tenant workloads.
- Develop reliable workflows for file upload, storage, extraction, embedding, and indexing across multiple services.
- Design and maintain versioned APIs with documented behavior, backward compatibility, clear ownership, and deliberate change management.
- Anticipate concurrency, load, partial failures, retries, and long-running processing scenarios to ensure correctness at scale.
- Participate in on-call rotations, lead incident response, and implement post-mortem actions and durable fixes.
- Improve observability through service instrumentation and tracing, and automate recurring operational work.
- Collaborate with storage, extraction, indexing, connectors, and front-end engineering teams.
- Contribute through code reviews, design reviews, technical guidance, mentoring, and communication of technical trade-offs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 5 years of experience building production software and owning significant components of customer-facing systems.
- Extensive production experience with Python and AWS.
- Experience developing and debugging concurrent Python applications, including asyncio-based workflows and Python concurrency concepts.
- Experience running Kubernetes workloads in production, including KEDA-based event-driven autoscaling, scaler tuning, resource requests, and troubleshooting.
- Experience building large-scale orchestration services or data pipelines across multiple service boundaries.
- Understanding of eventual consistency, strongly consistent reads, durable state, retries, partial failures, and long-running workflows.
- Experience with at-least-once processing, exactly-once considerations, and idempotent processing.
- Hands-on experience with queues, fair queuing, rate limiting, backpressure, multi-tenant fairness, and noisy-neighbor isolation.
- Experience designing and maintaining versioned APIs with backward-compatible contracts.
- Operational ownership experience including on-call support, incident response, root-cause analysis, and durable fixes.
- Strong engineering fundamentals including testing, code review, observability, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
- Ability to collaborate across engineering teams and communicate technical trade-offs clearly.
- Preferred qualifications include document processing or document management experience, OCR and large-file workflows, third-party integrations, event-driven architectures, Kafka, MSK, SQS, durable workflow engines, retrieval or embedding pipelines for LLM or agentic applications, legal-industry exposure, and Team Topologies concepts.
