Base Salary

$173k - $286k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Translate business and product needs into scalable data models, metrics, analyses, and technical solutions.
  • Design, build, and scale pipelines and data models integrating multiple sources into trusted datasets with measurable quality and predictable SLA performance.
  • Own the lifecycle of metrics, analytical models, and data products from exploration through production, adoption, and maintenance.
  • Lead data governance, management, strategy, and standardization initiatives across teams and domains.
  • Establish data engineering best practices and promote trusted metrics and self-service analytics across Slack.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and hands-on guidance to engineers.
  • Use AI-assisted development while maintaining code quality, data quality, and maintainability.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of overall software engineering or data engineering experience, including 5+ years of hands-on data architecture, data modeling, data management, and metadata management experience.
  • Deep SQL expertise and experience designing reliable, scalable pipelines and transformations for large and complex datasets.
  • Experience architecting and optimizing data models, schemas, and processing workflows for performance, scalability, cost efficiency, and reliability in modern data warehouses.
  • Proficiency in at least one data engineering programming language, such as Python or Java.
  • Hands-on experience with large-scale data technologies including Snowflake, Spark, Airflow, and Hive.
  • Experience with relational and NoSQL data stores and data modeling approaches including logging, columnar, star, snowflake, and dimensional models.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks, software development lifecycle practices, and Agile methodologies.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, stakeholder collaboration, autonomy, and ability to influence technical direction.
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent training, fellowship experience, or relevant professional experience, is preferred.

  • The posted annual base salary range is $172,500-$260,100, or $207,800-$285,800 in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan areas; bonus, equity, and benefits are excluded.
