Base Salary
$184k - $230k/yr
Responsibilities
- Research retrieval, reasoning, and agentic AI techniques and determine which ideas should influence the product roadmap.
- Rapidly prototype ideas and convert successful concepts into production-grade features.
- Define technical direction across multiple teams within Fivetran AI.
- Build and maintain backend and frontend systems, including Agents Schema pipelines and the Context Catalog UI.
- Advance AISQL for natural-language-to-SQL workflows grounded in dbt metric definitions and executed against data warehouses.
- Own production reliability through on-call rotation, incident response, and SRE work.
- Set testing and QA standards and perform hands-on QA when needed.
- Use coding agents to automate repetitive engineering work.
- Independently define and execute plans from high-level product and leadership direction.
- Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar across the Fivetran AI team.
- Participate in and help shape the hiring and interview process.
Requirements
- 8+ years of programming experience across Python and/or Java, with the ability to work across backend and frontend systems.
- Trusted-expert-level technical influence beyond the immediate team and experience defining direction across multiple teams.
- Ability to read AI/ML research and turn promising findings into prototypes and production systems.
- Strong product and market judgment for distinguishing valuable emerging techniques from hype.
- Track record of independently translating ambiguous, high-level direction into executable work.
- Experience with SQL and data warehouses such as BigQuery, Snowflake, or Databricks.
- Willingness to work across research, backend, frontend, SRE, and QA as needed.
- Ability to write structured, performant code and improve unfamiliar codebases.
- Experience using coding agents or similar AI tooling.
- Demonstrated mentoring ability and influence over technical decisions beyond the immediate team.
- Ability to thrive in a startup-like environment with shifting priorities and high ownership.
- Preferred experience with LLM-powered applications, RAG pipelines, embeddings, evaluation frameworks, or agent frameworks.
- Preferred familiarity with semantic layers such as dbt, LookML, or Sigma.
- Preferred experience with the MCP ecosystem or AI agent integrations.
- Preferred site reliability experience including monitoring, alerting, and incident response.
- Preferred data processing, ETL/ELT, or data connector experience.
- Preferred cloud experience with AWS, GCP, Kubernetes, or Docker.
- Contributions to open-source AI or data projects are a bonus.
