Responsibilities
- Design and implement federated GraphQL solutions using Node.js, Spring Boot, and DGS.
- Own and evolve critical production services to support availability, resilience, and throughput at scale.
- Translate business needs into scalable API contracts and unified architecture decisions with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Improve GraphQL query performance, cost analysis, security, error handling, and client integration patterns.
- Guide product teams through GraphQL learning and migration efforts using reusable federation and schema-design patterns.
- Prototype and refine solutions while improving engineering design, development processes, and platform standards.
- Mentor less experienced team members and influence adoption of GraphQL best practices across eBay.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software development experience building and supporting production applications or distributed systems at scale.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience with Node.js and/or Spring Boot, including designing, building, and troubleshooting backend services.
- Experience designing, documenting, and governing public APIs with an emphasis on usability, consistency, and maintainability.
- Hands-on or transferable experience with GraphQL; federated GraphQL and schema design experience is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Java and/or Kotlin and understanding of service-oriented architecture and microservices.
- Ability to collaborate across stakeholders, provide technical leadership, and mentor less experienced engineers.
- Experience working with TypeScript, Docker, and Kubernetes is expected when needed.
- Familiarity with Apollo Federation is a plus.
