Base Salary
$171k - $267k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for the Everand backend through design documents, architecture reviews, and concrete backend designs.
- Own backend reliability and platform health, including staging, CI/CD, databases, queues, cost, and observability.
- Raise engineering quality through code review, mentorship, pairing, and high standards for design, testing, and operations.
- Represent Everand backend engineering in cross-team planning and cross-functional execution.
- Build scalable, resilient, and observable systems while modernizing legacy systems and reducing technical debt.
- Partner with Product, Design, Analytics, Web, Mobile, and ML Engineers to deliver experimentation-supporting backend systems and a single source of truth across platforms.
- Use data, metrics, and telemetry to identify trends, resolve anomalies, and guide technical decisions.
- Champion a user-first approach to backend and platform decisions.
Requirements
- Significant backend engineering experience with a strong track record building and scaling distributed systems.
- Proficiency writing clean, maintainable, and secure code in at least one modern backend language such as Ruby, Scala, Go, or Python.
- Experience defining SLOs, implementing metrics and alerts, and debugging distributed systems.
- Proven technical leadership in setting architectural direction, mentoring engineers, and driving large-scale migrations or modernization efforts.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with senior product, design, and ML partners.
- Interest in mentoring, knowledge-sharing, architecture review groups, and cross-team engineering initiatives.
- Strong user focus and ability to translate user needs into backend systems.
- Strong Ruby coding ability is a plus.
- Experience improving reliability, latency, or throughput in large-scale distributed systems is a plus.
- Experience working with ML teams on recommendation or feed systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with experimentation or feature-flagging platforms is a plus.
